Introduction

Welcome to this learning series brought to you by the National Menopause Foundation. In this module we discuss a topic that affects many and is often overlooked — the relationship between menopause and sleep disturbances. According to the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation (SWAN), sleep disturbances increase with age and can affect up to 60% of postmenopausal women. Adequate and restful sleep is a fundamental human need, and an essential part of effective menopause management.

By the end of this module, you will understand:

  • how menopause transition impacts your sleep quality;
  • strategies for improving sleep quality during menopause transition; and
  • how to access treatment options and resources related to menopause and sleep.
